Amyloidosis is a largely unknown blood disorder, striking under 2,000 people per year in this country. Difficult to diagnose, if left untreated it is usually fatal. I was diagnosed with this terrible disease in May of 2009. I was lucky to receive an early diagnosis and have recovered after a long recovery period. Many others suffer the consequences of misdiagnoses and late diagnoses.
I am chairing this first-of-its-kind fund-raising dinner for the amyloidosis research programs at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and the Boston University Medical Center, and to increase awareness of this disease. Only in this way will we increase and improve available treatment options.
In the past I have asked you to support political causes and you hae responded generously. Now I am asking for you to help save lives.
Please join me in support of this event to find a cure for this potentially devastating disease taking place on February 10, 2011, 6:00 p.m., at Leonard's of Great Neck, in Long Island..
