Tour the Brooklyn Museum

THE BROOKLYN MUSEUM Did you know that Walt Whitman was an early librarian of the Brooklyn Museum? This is but one of the very many interesting facts learned by the over 60,000 schoolchildren who visit the Brooklyn Museum each year. The museum has an historical commitment to education . There are progressive and informative programs for children and adults, including storytelling in the galleries, school vacation programs, films, performances, concerts, gallery talks, tours and lectures.

For visitors to New York City, the Brooklyn Museum is located a little off the beaten track in Central Brooklyn. However, as a plus, it’s only a half-hour from midtown Manhattan and it does have its own subway stop. The Museum shares a parking lot with the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, the Prospect Park Zoo and the main branch of the Brooklyn Public Library. Consequently, a trip to the Brooklyn Museum will allow you to visit other sites that are of interest to children as well as adults. The Museum’s collection of ancient Egyptian art is one of the finest in the world. It is noted for its fine sculpture and exquisitely fashioned objects of decorative art. The Museum’s collection of painting and sculpture includes American, European and Contemporary art. The Brooklyn Museum is located at 200 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn, New York. The hours are: Wednesday – Friday, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
