Stan Gershbein is a native of Brooklyn, New York. Before 1995, he was a partner/owner in three pharmacies, an exporting company and six restaurants in the New York area. In 1995 he sold his pharmacy, which was located in Forest Hills, Queens, and retired with his wife Carol to South Florida. He is a gregarious guy who loves to talk to people about his opinions on a variety of subjects. He began writing in the 80’s. These days he writes a column called “It’s Only My Opinion,” that appears in the Courier-Life chain of periodicals – A News Corporation Company owned by Rupert Murdoch.
Most of Stan Gershbein’s time is spent relaxing with his wife on the beach in Ft. Lauderdale or dining out with his retired friends; however, he also spends time doing what he loves best, which is telling people what he thinks – he can’t believe that he gets paid to do this!
Retirement doesn’t necessarily mean that you spend the rest of your life resting on the goals you have already accomplished. Stan Gershbein is living proof that you can work at a job you love and still enjoy relaxing on the beach in sunny Florida. With good planning, you can have it all!

Stan Gershbein is quite a guy. I have known Stan and Carol for a very long time and very much enjoy their company. Stan always has an interesting point of view and, more importantly, is great at putting it into words. I hope to continue to read much more from him and about him. KEEP IT COMING, STAN!

It's not only my opinion but Stan Gershbein sets a great example for others of a certain age by not sitting on his hands after retirement, but rather continuing to contribute to the community with an informative and enjoyable weekly newspaper column, an active website and other activities, in addition to enjoying that great Florida on most days. Keep up the good work Stan!

I became friends with Stan and Carol in the late 1970’s. We lived in a quaint little neighborhood called Canarsie and back then we were considered the local “community activists.” Stan was always a true gentleman, who loved to be involved with as many worthwhile projects as possible; giving his all to each of them. I can’t count the number of times we sat together at various community dinners and breakfasts, and he never failed to have a new joke or story to keep us entertained. I’m so glad to see he is still active and fully involved with life. Good for you Stan!
Your pal from Canarsie,

This is a very interesting interview and article. Stan provides a candid perspective on living in Florida that should be of interest to many. I share the same views. I am a friend, and am one of the people who sees Stan and Carol socially; they are terrific!

What an interesting life Stan Gershbein seems to be enjoying, along with his 'roommate' Carol, as he always refers to her in his always-interesting weekly newspaper columns. Stan's globetrotting retirement is well-deserved, for he worked many a year where, apparently, his gift of gab taught him quite a bit about folks and the world around us. Wow, being a partner in six restaurants means lucky Carol, I assume, hardly had to cook. G-d bless them both; they are beautiful people.
