Beatrice Davis is a retired school teacher who loves to write poetry. She writes about her surroundings and her family. The following are two poems from her recently published book, Mindsight:
Beginnings and Endings
Had we but world enough, and time...
- Andrew Marvell, 1621-1698
Life’s patterns begin with dreams
end with memories of what remains
after all else has evaported.
Where is there world enough
or time enough to explore, to talk, to share.
How do we manage the memories?
Divide them, take them out at night
record them, honor them, hide them
in the secret attic of the mind.
Season’s Greetings
Once I greeted autumn as it
surrendered chlorophyll to expose
flaming pigments - a herald of new
beginnings. New school year, new clothes,
new awareness, glowing with garnet and golden
promises of hope and excitement
Now autumn greets me
as the vanguard of approaching winter
of browns and grays. Dusk
encroaches on afternoons, brings
darkness too soon, too soon
I mark the days
await spring’s auguries
