People handle tragedy differently. Muriel Finkel’s Uncle Norman was dying from a rare disease called Amyloidosis. Uncle Norman never married and never had children. He came to live with Muriel and her husband so they could care for him during the last two years of his life. Little was known about Amyloidosis and there was no one they could find to turn to for help. Consequently, after her uncle died, Muriel Finkel started an organization called Amyloidosis Support Groups. She wanted to be certain that no one would have to feel as isolated as she and her husband felt while living with this disease. There are now Amyloidosis Support Groups located throughout the United States. Friends and families of Amyloidosis patients have people to turn to for support, and they have the opportunity to learn about new treatments and medications from the doctors who attend their meetings. Several hospitals are working on a cure for Amyloidosis at this time.
In this world there are followers and there are leaders; it is clear to see what category Muriel Finkel fits into.
