This year marks the 100th Anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire.
In 1909, the women working in this factory went on strike to demand better wages, shorter work days, safer working conditions and the right to unionize.
On March 28, 1911, 146 of these female workers, mostly young immigrant women and girls, perished in the worst workplace disaster in New York history.
The outpouring of empathy for these young women and their families led to major advances in workplace safety for American workers.
To honor the legacy of the victims of the Triangle Factory Fire, the Long Island Fund for Women & Girls will present:
