This recipe is for special occasions -- not on anyone's diet if you're trying to lose weight, but it is unbelievably good to eat on special occasions.
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup melted butter
4 teaspoons cinnamon (divided)
1 tablespoon vanilla
3 apples (peeled and thinly sliced)
1/2 cup raisins
French bread or Challah bread
6 eggs
1-1/2 cup milk
Combine brown sugar, butter and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon. Add apples. Mix together until apples are coated with the cinnamon mixture. Spread this mixture evenly over the bottom of a 13" x 9" baking dish. Place bread on top of apples.
in a separate bowl mix eggs, milk, vanilla and the remaining 2 teaspoons of cinnamon. Mix until well blended. Pour mixture over bread. Make sure all of the bread is immersed in this mixture. Cover and let sit in refrigerator for approximately 6 hours (or overnight).
Bake at 375 degrees for about 40 minutes. Serve warm.
