Suggested Summer Reading from Bea Davis

Bea Davis, who has been leading our book discussions, and author of Mindsight, recommends the following books for summer reading:

1) Saving Fish from Drowning by Amy Tan

2) Don't Let's Go To the Dogs Tonight  by Alexandra Fuller

3) To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee (This is the 50th anniversary of the book's publication and there will likely be a reissue and lots of talk about it)

4) Mudbound by Hillary Jordan

5) Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver

Be sure to tell us how you enjoy any one of these books once you've had a chance to read them.

You don't read books written by men?

I've just discovered Tom Perotta, Sebastian Faulks, and Jonathan Tropper. But
the one I'm currently reading is by a woman, The Believers by Zoe Heller. So far,
so good.

i have to open up a discussion about my kind of reading! I love thrillers, murder mysteries, legal thrillers. I don't see any comments about these authors and titles. So i'll give you a few of my favorite authors and see who responds BUT my favorite book of all time is To Kill a Mockingbird. I also fancy myself a Sherlock Holmes expert/addict. Enough.

Steven White's main character Alan is based in Boulder whre my daughter went to university. Alan is a psychologist who gets himself into my kind of messes.
Daniel Silva of Da Vinci Code fame is another favorite.
Robin Cook, of course....Ridley Pearson.....Brad Thor. There are many others who are more obscure but there for another time.

You get the point. I'll be waiting for feedback.

I just finished reading The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown. He certainly writes page turners. I couldn't put that book down. It's every bit as exciting as his last book.

To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my favorites as well, and I see that it was one of the recommended books for summer reading. There's a big anniversary coming up with that book this year.
